Important Announcement: Draft Proposed Permanent Changes to Enable Digital and Virtual Processes under the Condominium Act, 1998

As you know, in May of 2020, the Legislature passed the COVID-19 Response and Reforms to Modernize Ontario Act, 2020, which, among other things, made temporary legislative amendments to the Condominium Act, 1998 (Condo Act) to allow virtual meetings in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These temporary legislative amendments had since been further extended to permit Condominium Corporations to call and hold virtual owner meetings until September 30th, 2022.

Making Digital and Virtual Processes Permanently Permissible under the Condominium Act, 1998.

The Ministry has previously held public consultations regarding potential permanent changes or further temporary changes to the Condominium Act, 1998 in relation to virtual processes that would help condominiums adapt to new ways of doing business that are more virtual and allow for broader participation.

The Ministry is now seeking input on the draft proposed permanent legislative and regulatory amendments that would enhance virtual processes under the Condominium Act, 1998. We strongly encourage all of our customers and those in the Ontario condominium community to provide their input by the January 21st, 2022 11:59 P.M. deadline.
