In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Ontario has extended temporary legislative amendments to the Condominium Act, 1998 (Condo Act) related to virtual owner meetings. Previously set to expire on December 31, 2021, the effective period these temporary legislative provisions has now been extended until September 30, 2022.

What Does This Mean for You?

For corporations governed under the Condo Act, the extension of these temporary legislative provisions permits corporations to call and hold owner meetings and collect votes through telephonic or electronic means as applicable, regardless of whether the corporation has an authorizing by-law in place until September 30, 2022.

These legislative provisions also permit Corporations to continue notifying their owners of upcoming meetings via email, including owners who have not expressly entered into an agreement with the corporation permitting electronic communications.
